A calculator is an electronic device, designed to perform various mathematical calculations. These calculators are available in various designs, styles and sizes. The purpose of these calculators is not only limited to simple mathematic calculations but the advanced ones are designed to assist in graphing, printing, trades and businesses as well. The abacus which was simply a series of beads or stones was the first to be used for mathematical calculations. In 1623, Wilhelm Schickard built the first machine for calculating astronomical tables. Later on, Blaise Pascal designed the Pascaline in 1645 to perform additions and subtractions.

Till the 19th century more additions were made to the features and designs of calculators and with the advancement in technology the popularity and use of calculators increased tremendously. In the latter half on the 20th century, technical revolution took place and new and advanced features were added to the calculators. The purpose of calculators is not only limited to simple addition, subtraction or multiplication but it is now being used to perform numerous tasks.
