Dictionaries often give you the description or meaning of a word that doesn’t sound familiar to you. Some words or terms in math are highly technical for they are frequently used in the higher classes in math.

Many of these terms come from the area of conic sections. An “ellipse” is the locus of points on a plane where the sum of the distances from any point on the curve to two fixed points called foci is constant.
